Session 1 Ends on a High Note What a wonderful way to wrap up four weeks of summer activities at Pegasus. On Friday parents joined us for a performance of the play, "Honk," by our  Performing Arts specialty area. Young ballerinas, a hopeful swan, and a watchful theatre manager took the stage for a very sweet and humorous rendition of the story about a swan hoping to dance its way onto the stage of the Paris Opera House. Congratulations to Specialist Linda Frank and the staff and all the actors.  Our dance instructor, Michelle Conti, showcased three groups of dancers from preschool through Counselors-in-Training.   Finally, Matt McCullough, a Leader-in-Training, debuted his 10-minute slide show of Session I highlights. Matt was rightfully proud of his final product, which captured all the great moments of the past four weeks. We appreciate his love of technology. Commented Matt later: "The best part of today was seeing the audience's reaction and watching the kids' faces while they were seeing the slideshow. For me, that was the most rewarding part of doing this." We are all looking forward to Session 2 as we welcome some new faces and continue the good times with Session I participants. Finally, the WPKN (Wayland Pegasus Kids News) specialty area produced a TV show about Session 1. It will be broadcast on Wayland's cable channels - Channel 37 on Verizon and Channel 9 on Comcast. It includes the play and slideshow.

Our four-week Session 1 comes to a close this Friday. More than 115 children enjoyed four weeks of summer fun with theme days like Backwards Day and Crazy Hat Day and Friday specials. Last Friday's Snow Day featured sledding, winter carnival activities, and Ben & Jerry's ice cream, thanks to the generosity of the Natick store. We were inundated with media coverage with our cold-weather activity on a hot summer day. Boston newspapers and TV stations came to Wayland  to cover our event and we are very grateful for all the great attention. Two of our WPKN specialty area students were interviewed by Channel 7's reporter Nancy Chen,  and they both conveyed the excitement of sledding in the summer to viewers throughout New England. Today - Wednesday, July 18, K-1 children visited the Science Discovery Museum while Grades 2-5 toured Fenway Park.

Pegasus Zooms into Week 2 Pegasus began swinging into high gear in Week 2. The Specialty Area groups are thriving. In Studio Art, children explored candlemaking and designed multidimensional collages. In Performing Arts, children are practicing lines, learning dancing, and singing songs. The play is based on a book entitled "Honk." Pegasus Dance elective instructor Michelle Conti has been recruited to choreograph one of the play's three dances. Many Performing Arts participants leave the morning specialty area so energized about performing that they head right to Dance for elective, making for a morning immersed in the arts. In Fun & Fitness, there's been fast-paced fun outdoors as this athletic crew keeps up a good pace every morning. WPKN has been busy capturing it all on videotape for the Pegasus TV Show. They've already interviewed the new Pegasus administrative assistant Julie Potter and captured the spirit and fun of Tuesday's Crazy Hat Day with a parade down the hall and a video segment of the craziest hats they could find.  To cap the week, we had a cookout and outdoor games, face painting, and water play. Kids of all ages and staff enjoyed running through the sprinkler. Stay tuned for next Friday's special event. The forecast calls for snow at Pegasus so dig out those hats and gloves.

We're off! Pegasus is up and running and we started with smiles all around, the most colorful tye-dye tee shirts, and all kinds of creative activities. On Tuesday, 13 fifth and sixth graders visited the New England Pirates Museum and on Wednesday they indulged an interest in either Studio Art or TV Production. TV participants went to the new state-of-the-art studio at Wayland High School for a production session.  Grades 1 - 5 traveled to Danvers to an indoor water park at Coco Key on Wednesday.  Friday is a special celebration of the 2012 Summer Olympics, and, of course, Liberty Pizza for Lunch Day. Preschool and Kindergarten children are thriving in the hands-on water and sand play outdoors and all kinds of art, crafts, games, and stories when they are inside. Monday's cloudy weather ruled out swimming at the Wayland Community Pool's outdoor facility. But a trip to Trombetta's in Marlboro for miniature golf and ice cream was fun for all!
